Industrial Inspections by Drones: Thermography in Wind Turbines

Drone by Drone conducts industrial inspections using drones.

Through its powerful drone fleet, the drone operator company is able to carry out industrial inspections using the most diverse sensors. Among the facilities to perform drone inspection drills are the fields of wind turbines, and can perform a variety of functions.

Visual inspections are carried out by means of powerful cameras with a visible spectrum, with a diversity of targets and zoom levels on our DJI Matrice 600, capable of putting up to 6kg of photographic equipment in flight.

Multispectral or thermographic cameras provide data beyond what is visible. Through these techniques, inspections are carried out to determine structural cracks in the shaft and blades, loss of insulation in the nacelle, possible frictions in the moving and rotating elements, as well as analysis of the performance of the power plant in its transformation centers and transport lines.

The applications in industrial inspections by drones are very wide in this field, and they save expensive vertical works and they obtain an efficiency much superior to the traditional means of inspection.

As an example the following photo, taken on a field of wind turbines for the evaluation of possible structural problems in the blades and the shaft.
