Interview CADENA COPE: The DGT launches drones for traffic surveillance

The Technical Director of Drone by Drone has been interviewed by the CADENA COPE on account of the premiere of several drones of the DGT for traffic surveillance during this May bridge.

In the interview with the Technical Director of the drone operating company of Bilbao, mention is made of the technical capabilities of the RPAS or drones with which the Directorate General of Traffic has for this bridge. All the equipment is from the well-known DJI drone manufacturer, adding up to five units that will ensure road safety during this May bridge.

The DGT has an already old Phantom 2, two units of the S900 hexacopter, a unit of the most modern and compact Phantom 4 Pro and a Matrice 200. All of them have very good range and autonomy capabilities, highlighting the most modern DJI Matrice 200. This unit can be equipped with thermographic cameras for night vision or zoom cameras in real time, being very useful for this type of tasks.

These drones will complement the aerial surveillance service of the DGT, which will operate as a test for missions exclusively for surveillance and traffic regulation.

Let's not forget that the DGT, according to RD 1036/2017 article 3 point 2, has exclusions to the RPAS operations of the State Security Forces, for which reason they are not subject to respect the limitations set out in chapters III, IV, V and VI.

Hopefully, as a deterrent or as an effective means to help reduce the number of accidents on our roads as much as possible.
