DJI Phantom 4 RTK for surveying by drones, precision assured

Drone by Drone offers surveying services using RPAS with RTK precision. The DJI Phantom 4 RTK, the new tool that the Chinese drone manufacturer offers us, has RTK technology or Real Time Kinetics. A new solution to perform surveying work using drones with very good precision.

The drone operating company of Bilbao has already done work using the DJI Phantom 4 RTK, being able to draw some very positive first conclusions. The drone has been able to be tested in routine situations or in complex orographic conditions and it has been possible to carry out the aerial acquisition and processing work very satisfactorily.

Both by means of the mobile station D-RTK 2 and without it, the system works perfectly, exchanging data in real time with the stations of the local GNSS reference network, allowing the sending of differential corrections by means of NTRIP protocols through your 4G accessory or a local Wi-Fi network or allowing the storage of satellite information to be used in PPK (Postprocessing). The transmission of data between the different components of the system is done by means of the contrasted and powerful Occusync 2.0, guaranteeing a precision at the height of any differential GPS.

In the different tests carried out, the results have been very positive, reaching reasonable accuracies of 2.5cm for flight heights of 80m with a GSD of less than 3cm. The corresponding checks have been made with quality control points in the field, corroborating the data thrown by the photogrammetric restitution programs.

By using drones with RTK technology not only the flight is made more safely, but the acquisition of the aerial data, the photographs, are obtained with total precision. An important added value for aerial surveying work. However, it is always recommended to obtain several points in the field to check the quality of the results.
