Capacity measurement system on beaches using drones - INVAR ARENA

The technological company INVAR Engineering and Artificial Vision together with Drone by Drone, specialists in drones, are currently developing a system for measuring the capacity of people on the beaches using systems based on vision and artificial intelligence with aerial data from drones or RPAS.

The current situation in which we find ourselves, caused by the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, requires the adoption of prevention and follow-up measures to minimize the risks of contagion between people. For this, it is necessary to maintain the minimum social distance recommended by the health authorities, avoiding crowds and the beaches are a point of special importance to control and monitor.

The technology available with the use of remotely piloted systems, such as drones that capture images from the air, combined with vision and artificial intelligence (AI) that processes recorded information, allows people to be counted. by zones and the measurement of the capacity.

The complete process of the system consists of periodically obtaining high resolution images or video from the air throughout the day, at remote points of the population, previously defined and fixed, for subsequent shipment and download to the unit. processing, allowing the result to be published on a web page or APP for consultation. The final result is shown by differentiated areas of the beaches with a color coding (green, yellow and red) according to their maximum permitted capacity and that reached at any time of the day.

The system named INVAR ARENA stands out for its portability, adapting to any environment or beach situation, not needing any type of installation, nor is it intrusive or invasive, respecting the privacy and safety of people.

The system provides useful and timely information, quickly and easily, identifying the presence of people (see red boxes in the image) and showing by colors associated with previously defined ranges, the occupation of each of the plots or areas of the beach, graphically and numerically. In the image you can see an example of the result recorded a beach as a test.

The applications of the results obtained with this system are very varied and not only applicable to beaches. Among the possible additional applications, it is important to carry out studies of traffic and pedestrian mobility, analyzing the behavior of the population, the areas with the highest density and concentration of people, periods of maximum influx, etc.
