Drone by Drone has made a 3-dimensional (3D) digital model of San Juan de Gaztelugatxe using drones.

The drone operating company of Bizkaia has recently had the opportunity to fly in the protected Biotope and since the entire area is closed to the public, it has had the opportunity to perform flights using UAS to acquire data to digitally restore the hermitage, the island and the famous stairs that give access to the base of the church.
The island and its surroundings were the setting for the filming of some scenes in the Game of Thrones series, in which Saint John becomes Dragonstone. In the fiction of the series, a digitally recreated palace is seen instead of the existing hermitage, although steps are maintained that go up to the top of the islet. As a result of the appearance in the famous television series, the influx of visitors has been so high, that the Provincial Council of Bizkaia has had to limit access to the area. It is currently closed due to several landslides on the lower access road.
