Alex Txikon establishes the base camp in Manaslu for his winter attack

Alex Txikon arrives at Manaslu base camp (8136m) to try to climb it for the first time in winter without oxygen.

The Basque mountaineer, with whom Drone by Drone collaborates in relation to the unmanned aerial means that it has in the expedition, launches WINTER SUMMITS, a project with which it intends to tread Manaslu in winter and without artificial oxygen, the eighth highest mountain on the planet with 8,163 meters above sea level.

After two previous attempts that have allowed him to see Manaslu first hand, in 2023 he will try to conquer the mountain that to date has not been crowned by a purely winter expedition. Txikon has just settled in the Manaslu Base Camp along with the rest of his team and the Italian Simone Moro will join them in the coming days. Once again Txikon will have six Nepali climbers among his roped partners, including Chhepal Sherpa or Pasang Sherpa, who have already accompanied him on previous occasions.

For this expedition, a Base Camp has been established at 3,700 meters (1,200 meters lower than in the last two expeditions) to avoid possible risks that could be caused by avalanches, wind or heavy snowfall that forced the abandonment of the attempt last year. crown the aforementioned peak. Of course, we have an aerial view of it, which will help us understand the harsh conditions in which we work in winter expeditions in the Himalayas.
