Drone by Drone is providing preventive drone surveillance services during the fireworks launch for Bilbao's Semana Grande (#AsteNagusia2025).
Using UAS (unmanned aerial vehicles) equipped with thermal imaging and visible spectrum (RGB) cameras, the Bizkaia drone operator is obtaining aerial data in the form of radiometric photographs and videos before, during, and after the fireworks launch.
The live viewing of technical recordings at the forward command post allows Civil Protection and Bilbao Fire Department personnel to detect any small fire outbreaks that may occur, either in the vegetation and trees of Etxebarria Park in Bilbao or on the roofs of the homes on Calle de la Esperanza and Calle de la Viuda de Epalza.
With the precise information captured by our drones, the aforementioned services are able to quickly locate a fire outbreak and address it swiftly.
Forensic analysis of the recorded footage could be used to assess possible fires that were not initially detected and to analyze their actual origin later, as data from before and after the fireworks were launched is available.
Flying drones in these circumstances is regulatory and technically demanding, so due to the existing risk, operations are carried out with two redundant drones. Both are equipped with thermal imaging cameras to analyze any incidents that may occur.
