We will participate in OreGaua 2025 to promote marine renewable energies - Ore4citizens

Drone by Drone will participate in OreGaua 2025, the ORE4citizens event, an initiative promoted by Basque scientists and joined by more than 100 researchers and 15 Basque organizations. The initiative aims to bring science closer to the public, raise awareness about the effects of climate change on the Basque coast, and showcase the key role that marine renewable energy plays in the fight against global warming.

This year, those who earn a participation certificate by completing a number of activities will help their school and class win a prize. Furthermore, the initiative seeks to highlight the global leadership of the Basque industry in the sector and the opportunity it represents for society and the planet.

Our participation will consist of conducting demonstration flights using drones, simulating offshore inspections at renewable energy facilities.

The initiative includes various activities, highlighting the OREgaua (National Association of Marine Renewable Energy) event on the afternoon of September 26th at the Lasesarre sports center in Barakaldo, from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Activities include live music, games, talks, and experiments for all ages.

Climate change presents significant challenges for the Basque coast, both in terms of physical impacts on the environment and socioeconomic impacts on coastal communities, where manned aircraft can obtain essential data for analysis. It is important to take measures to adapt to these changes and mitigate the effects of climate change in the region. The development and deployment of marine renewable energy contributes to this mitigation and is one of the keys to the medium- and long-term global energy transition due to its generation potential. At the same time, they represent an industrial, economic, and social opportunity for the Basque Country, compatible with the protection of the marine environment.

The ORE4citizens initiative, led by TECNALIA and recently joined by Drone by Drone, is completed by the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), the Euskampus Foundation, and BCAM – Basque Center for Applied Mathematics. Funded by the European Union under the Horizon Europe research and innovation program, it is supported by multiple entities in the sector, such as Arrecife Energy Systems, BIMEP, the Energy Cluster, the Basque Energy Agency, the Basque Government, Iberdrola, Idom, Nautilus, Saitec, Sener, Siemens Gamesa, the Port of Bilbao, Ocean Energy Europe, and WindEurope.
