Drone by Drone participated in OreGaua 2025, the ORE4citizens event, an initiative promoted by Basque scientists and joined by more than 150 researchers and 15 organizations from the Basque Country. The initiative aims to bring science closer to the public, raise awareness about the effects of climate change on the Basque coast, and showcase the key role that marine renewable energy plays in the fight against global warming.
Furthermore, the initiative seeks to highlight the Basque industry's global leadership in the sector and the opportunity it represents for society and the planet.
Our participation in the event, held at the Lasesarre sports center in Barakaldo, consisted of conducting demonstration flights using drones simulating offshore inspections at renewable energy facilities, projecting the camera's view in real time, both in RGB (conventional vision) and infrared. Children and adults alike were amazed by our drones' remote sensing capabilities, as well as the quality and resolution of the images. They were able to view them in real time, and we even dared to take a few drone selfies (like the one you see in the image illustrating this news story). It was quite an experience for attendees.
The ORE4citizens initiative, led by TECNALIA, which Drone by Drone joined without hesitation, is completed by the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), the Euskampus Foundation, and BCAM – Basque Center for Applied Mathematics. ORE4Citizens is funded by the European Union within the Horizon Europe research and innovation program and has the support of multiple entities in the sector, such as Arrecife Energy Systems, BIMEP, the Energy Cluster, the Basque Energy Agency, the Basque Government, Iberdrola, Idom, Nautilus, Saitec, Sener, Siemens Gamesa, the Port of Bilbao, Ocean Energy Europe, and WindEurope.
