New call for applications for the drone radio operator course according to RD517/2024

Drone by Drone is offering a new course to obtain the radiotelephony operator certificate required by Royal Decree 517/2024. Certificates issued under Royal Decree 1036/2017 will expire at the end of June 2026, as per the First Transitional Provision of the aforementioned Royal Decree.

It is important to remember that to fly UAS in a UAS geographic area for operational reasons, subject to authorization by ATC services, the drone pilot will be required to have training in aeronautical communications for the use of the air band (aeronautical mobile service) to establish communications with the Control Tower or with other manned or unmanned aircraft.

According to Article 34 of Royal Decree 517/2024, UAS pilots must demonstrate theoretical and practical knowledge, possessing:

- A theoretical radio operator training certificate issued by the Spanish State Aviation Safety Agency (AESA), which will have indefinite validity; and

- A practical radio operator training certificate issued by an examiner authorized by the AESA, after demonstrating their competence in aeronautical communications, which will be valid for two years from its issuance.

Therefore, to ensure that new pilots can obtain the necessary radio operator accreditation and that drone pilots need to renew their accreditations, the drone operator company is launching a new call for applications to obtain theoretical and practical radio operator certificates.

The theoretical phase will take place in person at our facilities on June 3rd, preparing students for the online exam administered through the AESA website, which they must subsequently pass.

On June 16th, the practical portion and exam, administered by a qualified examiner, will take place in person, allowing you to obtain your practical radio operator certificate.
