Txakoli Txabarri: Precision Agriculture using drones

Just as we did during the last campaign, this year Drone by Drone again monitors the Txakoli Txabarri cultivation using precision farming techniques by drones.

The Bilbao-based drone operator company continues to carry out precision agriculture works on Txabarri's vineyards, although for this year we have the information obtained during the last year´s campaign to compare the evolution of the crop.

Since the beginning of the campaign, it has been tried to detect the appearance of the fungus of the vineyards, the Mildiu or Plasmopara viticola, as well as the monitoring of its extension to be able to quickly tackle it. The changing climate of early summer, with days of intense heat followed by very humid days has encouraged the appearance of this fungus. Thanks to the rapid detection of it from the air, its affection on the vines of Txakoli Txabarri has been practically null.

In the reflectance map of the NDVI index drawn in mid-August, it is clearly seen that the vines have not been affected, as we can compare it with the reflectance map obtained last August. The vines show an optimal distribution of vigor and very homogeneous, fruit of the measures that have been taken at the beginning of the season using the data obtained last year, which help to correct small deficiencies detected.

Thanks to drones like the Sensefly eBee Ag endowed with multispectral cameras, Drone by Drone puts a very effective tool available to farmers.

Drone by Drone will continue to monitor the harvest of Txakoli Txabarri by drones until the harvest, where we will be able to make an evaluation of the productive yields obtained in comparison with data from last year. We hope that this campaign improves the previous one, since the adopted measures have been successful and the meteorology is accompanying for the moment.

Our drones will continue flying over this beautiful place, for the later benefit of the farmer, who sees his harvest prosper and improve year by year.
