Drone by Drone has recorded aerial images using drones of the fires two weeks ago in Navarra. The images captured by drones have been the headline in the news last Friday, July 1, of EITB.
The operating company registered with AESA has taken aerial images using drones or UAS for the EiTB information services on the Legarda and Ujue fires. The fires in Navarra have burned close to 15,000ha and led to the eviction of 9,000 residents of the affected towns. The images show the burned area near the municipalities of Óbanos, Legarda, Puente la Reina, Ujue and San Martín de Unx.
The images were recorded after the stabilization of the fires and with the appropriate authorizations for flight in controlled airspace.
It must be remembered that flying drones or UAS in the vicinity of or over active forest fires can entail a high risk for manned aircraft operations that are carried out to fight the fire from the air and monitor it. Drones can be an indispensable tool in these types of circumstances, but if they have to be flown, it must be done in coordination with the administration that manages the fire extinction tasks.
