AESA presents the White Paper on Innovation for Unmanned Aviation, drones or UAS

The State Aviation Safety Agency, AESA, has presented the new version of the White Paper on Innovation for Unmanned Aviation in Spain, drones or UAS.

The new version of the White Paper on R+D+i for UAS, after the presentation of the previous version in September 2020, involves updating the priorities in the nine areas already identified and a new one has been added, the last related to sustainability. The challenges that air transport has in its objective of being a less polluting medium are partly supported by the use of drones/UAS in many activities as an alternative.

The objective of the White Paper is to establish the key priorities regarding R+D+i that should be considered to guide the lines of action of the sector and of the Administration to achieve leadership in Spain in the field of unmanned aviation or UAS.

The 10 areas in which the book focuses are:
Scope 1.- Socioeconomic, Strategy and National Interests
Area 2.- Value Chain and Business Development
Scope 3.- Human Factors and Social Acceptance
Area 4.- Regulation and Certification
Scope 5.- Operational Safety. Security
Scope 6.- Physical Security and Cybersecurity. Safety
Scope 7.- Traffic Management
Area 8.- Technology and Technological Leap
Scope 9.- Mobility, Transportation and Integration with Infrastructures. Smart Cities
Area 10.- Sustainability

In total, these ten areas are analyzed, in which the objectives are established for the period 2022-2026 and the research, development and innovation (R+D+i) needs related to unmanned aviation or UAS in Spain are identified.

AESA and various organizations or agencies have participated in the conception of this White Paper, as its Advisory Council, balancing the contributions from the public and private sectors. The Carlos III University of Madrid, the University of Seville, the Polytechnic University of Valencia, FADA-CATEC, Airbus, Arborea Intellbird, Embention, INTA, SENASA, ENAIRE and AENA.
