Offshore operations with embarked drones or UAS

Operations in the open sea have their particularities compared to operations using drones from land. The marine surface is practically flat, except for the possible waves that form, so there are hardly any obstacles that make operations difficult. It will be necessary to fly with caution due to the possible presence of ships and their masts or the presence of offshore structures, as in the case of wind turbine fields.

When operating from ships, special attention must be paid to take-off and landing operations, since generally, limited space is available. The worst that can happen is that the UAS falls to the sea surface, so piloting precautions must be redoubled. The autonomy of the UAS used is key, allowing to increase the inspection time and the subsequent safe return of the aircraft to the ship for subsequent landing. If the operations are carried out from moving ships or platforms, the complexity increases, having to make an exquisite management of the flight batteries and the remaining autonomy.

The sea is a hostile environment for any electronic component, so proper inspections and maintenance will have to be carried out due to the presence of salinity and extreme weather conditions.
