We participated in the person search drill with the Bilbao Fire Department using our drones

Drone by Drone has participated in the aerial capture of images during the search and location drill for a missing person together with the Bilbao City Council Firefighters.

The test to locate the body under the waters of the Bilbao Estuary has been carried out by specialized personnel together with the Bilbao Fire Department. The main protagonist of the entire deployment is the 'K9 super agent', with the permission of his guide-instructor pairing, the dog that is trained in this type of tasks, and that has the ability to locate human traces in nooks, crevices or even Under water.

During the drill, under the watchful eye of our drones, a human sample was submerged in an undetermined location. The specialist dog was able to locate it twice from a boat, tracing a predefined tracking path, but different for the 2 tests that were carried out.

The application of this type of techniques is known as USAR, for its acronym in English, Urban Search and Rescue. USAR involves the locating, extraction, and initial stabilization of personnel trapped in confined spaces or under debris due to a sudden-onset large-scale structural collapse such as an earthquake, in a coordinated and standardized manner. The goal of search and rescue operations is to rescue the greatest number of trapped people in the shortest possible time, while minimizing the risk to rescue teams, in which, along with dogs, drones are increasingly important. .

Let us remember that the search and rescue, carried out by a Fire Department, for the purposes of using the drone, legally falls within the so-called 'Non-EASA' operations. These operations are based on state regulations, in this case covered under RD 1036/2017 and RD 1180/2018, with operators having to comply with conditions different from those included in European regulations. With the entry into force of the next new RD UAS, it is expected that flight conditions will be similar to those developed by European regulations, gaining flexibility and safety.
